Statistical methods

The purpose of Statistics Finland's statistical methods is to provide research and development related to the methods needed for production of statistics, to offer methodological training, to give methodological and statistical support to production of statistics and empirical research, and to bolster Statistics Finland's research services.

Compilation of sample designs

We participate yearly in the planning and practical implementation of several sampling surveys and weighting of observation data. Based on separately agreed assignments, our expertise can also be made available to customers.

Utilisation of register data

Exploitation of register data is a key area of expertise for us. Finland has a wide array of high-quality register data and the personal identity number system enables efficient use of information. When utilising register data use can be made of our methodological know-how.

Quality of statistics

Statistics Finland is actively involved in developing quality criteria and in analysing and reporting of the quality of statistics together with other European statistical offices and Eurostat. In Finland quality criteria have been specified for the Official Statistics of Finland (OSF), which are in compliance with Eurostat's quality criteria.

The components of statistical quality are described in more detail in our Quality Guidelines for Official Statistics handbook.

Training

We provide training related to statistical research and sampling methods as custom-made training tailored to customer needs.

Pricing

Hourly charging is applied in the pricing of methodological services, for which the price exclusive of VAT varies between EUR 80 to 140 depending on the nature of the assignment. Monthly charging may also be applied in large projects.
