Description

The statistics describe the use of hard coal in generation of electricity and heat in Finland.

Data content

The statistics contain usage data of hard coal by month. Use of metallurgical coal is excluded from the statistics.

Classifications used

The classification used is Statistics Finland’s fuel classification where the heading of hard coal is 121.

Data collection methods and data sources

The data are collected from major users of hard coal by an email inquiry. The coverage of the inquiry is over 95 per cent of the total use of hard coal. Data for small users are estimated on the basis of consumption in the previous years.

Updating frequency

The data are updated four times a year.

Time of completion or release

The data concerning the previous quarter are published four times a year: in April, August, October and January.

Time series

Statistics Finland has released data starting from 2005. Data prior to this have been based on statistics compiled by the Coal Committee and data have been published in the statistical appendix of the Energy Review of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce and annual data in Statistics Finland’s Energy Statistics.
