5 Oct 2020 Statistics Finland turned 155 years old

Finland’s Statistical Office was established on 4 October 1865 with the permission of the Russian Emperor. At the moment, Statistics Finland employs more than 800 professionals in various fields. Annually we produce around 160 sets of statistics on which around 600 topical releases are made during the year. Experimental statistics are an example of development where different new methods and data sources are harnessed to produce fast and reliable data and describe different phenomena.

As the latest instant preliminary statistics, Statistics Finland temporarily produces data on the number of bankruptcy proceedings instigated on the weekly level. The first instant preliminary statistics on bankruptcies will be released on Friday 22 May.

8 May 2020 Truck traffic-based nowcasts predict a fall in real output for April and May

The model developed by ETLA and Statistics Finland, based on data on truck traffic volumes observed by automatic measurement points around Uusimaa and provided by Traffic Management Finland Oy, indicates a drop in real output for both April and May. In particular, the estimate for the year-on-year growth rate of real output is -3.4, while for May we predict a drop of -5.4.

4 May 2020 Eurostat publishes exceptional rapid estimate statistics on the number of deaths in Europe

During the coronavirus epidemic, a need has arisen in European countries to monitor the development of the number of deaths almost in real time. From this week on, Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union publishes weekly data by region on the number of deaths by sex and age. Data on all Member States having supplied data to Eurostat are published in Eurostat's database. Statistics Finland also releases data concerning Finland in the Experimental statistics database.

4 May 2020 Statistics Finland wins project developing production of business statistics in Azerbaijan

Finland, Lithuania and the Netherlands will start developing the production of statistics in Azerbaijan through a Twinning project that will last a year and a half. The goals of the project are central to strengthening business-related statistics. This is Finland's two hundredth Twinning project.
